As the local elections on May 14 are on the horizon, Prime Minister Edi Rama has promised a salary increase for teachers today.

During a meeting with teachers in Tirana, where the Minister of Education Evis Kushi was also present, Prime Minister Rama declared that starting in April next year, a high school teacher will have a salary where the minimum will be 95,550 lek, while those in gymnasium 106,800 lek.

The head of the government further added that the process of salary increase for teachers will be done in 2 steps, where the base will be at this level, while there will also be an addition for the seniority of each of them.

"Surely you have heard that we have decided to make a significant salary increase. Now we have the opportunity to do this. At the end of the day, it is not a matter of desire, but also of opportunity. The capacity to stay in that contract is guaranteed by economic growth. The increase we will make is related to the fact that we made an increase beyond the minimum wage forecast. We saw that the possibility of a general wage increase was created because it is very important that the minimum wage also pushes the private sector. When the minimum wage increases, the entire adjustment must be made. We have made a two-step plan that will start now and close next year.

A 7% increase was foreseen for teachers and doctors, we will increase it by 7%. In the next step, next year, your salary will jump to another level. If we are talking today, the monthly increase will be between 3584 for 9-year school teachers, 3843 for secondary school teachers and up to 5800 for principals, in the general increase, teachers in 9-year school will have a salary , 95,550 ALL and teachers in secondary school will have a salary of 106,800 ALL. These are the basics, then there are according to seniority and qualifications that vary, but this is the salary level of teachers" , he emphasized.
