Prime Minister Edi Rama delivered his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
Initially, he focused on the Russia-Ukraine war, describing it as a brutal violation of international law. He condemned the Russian attack and declared that we will stand in solidarity with Ukraine.
"In these 8 decades, we have witnessed solidarity and an all-time necessity of the need to work together, the world has known progress, but our journey has had obstacles, we have witnessed setbacks and progress, this has happened for because of man-made disasters, because of narrow politics, because of nationalism, greed for dominance, that's why we control the health of the world.
If you are committed to peace and security, to maintain international law, for the climate, it does not mean repeating each other. This year our hopes and beliefs have been shattered by the cruel aggression of Russia. Russia's war of choice is against Ukraine but it is also a brutal attack on international law... We will stand in solidarity with Ukraine and its people." Rama said.
Further, referring to Iran's cyber attack on our country, Rama called on the UN to increase security to prevent such attacks in the future. He declared that Albania had no other choice but to cut off diplomatic relations with Iran.
"The world has never been a peaceful place and there are many serious challenges that need to be addressed properly. Many countries have become subject to the seizure of power by force. At a time when a multitude of crises have plunged the world into turmoil, I ask the assembly on another issue, that of cyber security.
In Albania, 95% of services are offered online to save time, energy and improve quality. Last July, Albania was the subject of an unprovoked cyber attack that aimed to paralyze public services. An in-depth, long and comprehensive investigation conducted with world expertise has confirmed that the cyber attack was sponsored by Iran.
Faced with such a flagrant violation of norms in a time of peace, the Albanian government had no choice but to cut off relations with Iran. We hope this measure will be an example. We call on the UN to focus on cyber security and investing in prevention. Albania is a member of the Balkan Municipality, a part of Europe with a troubled history," said Rama.
