33 years since its establishment, the largest party in the opposition (until the last parliamentary elections) today officially registers 25 thousand members and, above all, it does not even have a stamp.
The chairman of the electoral commission in PD Jemin Gjana declared through a press conference that everything is ready for Saturday's vote for the new chairman of the party. During the conference, Gjana was asked several times about the reasons why the membership list had shrunk from 75,000 voters in 2021 to only 25,000.
He could not even answer the other question from the media if the other 50,000 members had gone to the other side of Berisha.
The only thing he specified was the answer that the 25 thousand members have been 'purged' by the Berishists and those who moved to other parties such as the former LSI or PDIU.
Gjana said that the membership list has been verified by the heads of the branches through the establishment of working groups in cooperation with the meetings of the presidencies. Does this small number legitimize the election of the president?
"There is no statutory requirement to calculate how much the number should be. Today, the official list to be sent is 25 thousand. You have the right to make other analyses, yes... These theories with majorities and minorities serve no one and nothing. That is the number of members who have been verified," he said. At the same time, he recalled that a few years ago the DP list had 120,000 members.
Another issue debated at the press conference was the delegation of the seal from the General Secretary of the DP, Gazment Bardhi, to the one for Legal Affairs, Indrit Sefa.
Gjana said that the presidency had the right to make a decision based on the statute, but did not answer who currently administered the seal. According to him, the official PD did not have a seal that should be kept in the Protocol office, as they do not have the latter either. He explained that the presidency was forced to issue a transitional decision until the Protocol office was re-established and a new seal produced.
"As for the seal, I'm sorry but I don't think it applies to the audience, to the public. The DP seal, like the seal of any public institution, has a protocol and archive office. The seal to my knowledge has remained in the protocol office. Neither the General Secretary nor the chairman holds that. Stick to the protocol of the institution. You know why we made the decision, because the moment was coming for the choice and it turned out that we no longer had a seal and of course we were going to create one. It seems low to take the seal in your pocket. I am sorry that Bardhi has gone to this action of saying that the seal is here. We are producing another seal...", Gjana said among other things
