Mitsotakis meets Beler in Athens: 'Soon you will be out of prison forever

Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today with Fredi Beler, who has been granted leave from prison in Albania, to be sworn in as MeP of Greece at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

"I hope that you will soon be out of prison forever, that this painful chapter will finally end for all of us, so that we can continue and look forward," Mitsotakis told Beler at the start of their meeting.

"We also have every reason to seek an Albania that... it approaches Europe, adhering strictly to its European commitments. "I think that's a common goal that we all want to work on," he said.

"I believe that the rule of law, the right to choose and to be elected, are not self-evident in the country where we live. I want to help with this," Beleri told Mitsotakis during their meeting, according to a transcript released by the Greek prime minister's office.

"To help the ethnic Greek minority stay in the tertiary house, but also to bring this country closer and become a member of the European family," Beleri said.
