Minister Hasani, on pensions with Greece and the maritime agreement: We need
Foreign Minister, Igli Hasani

At the end-of-year meeting with media representatives, Foreign Minister Igli Hasani answered questions regarding negotiations with Greece, including the pension issue and the maritime agreement.

He emphasized that the negotiations with Greece are multifaceted and handled with maximum care, where the main interest is to advance Albania's relations with the European Union, while maintaining a stable and healthy relationship with the neighboring country.

Question: How are the negotiations for the recognition of pensions going? At the end of last year's conference you said that your predecessor had submitted the file to the presidency but their fate is unknown? At the end of last year's conference you said that your predecessor had submitted the file to the presidency but their fate is unknown?

"Negotiations with Greece have many vectors and ways that we are treating with utmost care and attention. In all this effort, the Albanian government's interest prevails to bring Albania closer to the EU as quickly and as possible, without leaving behind the foundations of a good and healthy relationship."

We have had a very good and serious understanding and engagement with the Republic of Greece in this specific case. It is important that it is not a microphone effort but table work, going into all the necessary details but also taking care that the details do not spoil the whole. It is important to continue to have this engagement not only with our southern neighbors to achieve tangible results, such as the fact that the two most political group chapters in the entire process were opened.

Question: The Greek Prime Minister declared a week ago that the integration of Albania remains in the hands of our country, how it will meet the conditions of the Greek minority related to their rights and property. How do you read the statements of the Greek Prime Minister, Mitsotakis?

We are fulfilling all our obligations to have the best possible environment capable of respecting the rights of Albanian citizens, including those of Greek nationality. In this context, we have created the necessary mechanisms with the institutions of the European Commission and the Council of Europe. What is important is to see the whole thing in a continuous progress. Let's put the lens and look at the relations 30 years ago. Let's see the way of progress and commitment that the government has always had towards its citizens of any nationality

Question: Do you consider the fact that you failed to be elected Secretary General of the OSCE a failure, a failure of the country more than your own?

There has been no concession for a moment in what we have clearly stated. The interest of the country is above personal interests. I consider it a success that, having the maximum support of over 70% of the OSCE member states, I withdrew at the right moment to give way not only to the consensus on the new OSCE leadership but also to important developments that are closely related to the strategic partners Greece and Turkey.
