The Local Self-Government Units Training Academy is now a concrete reality for local government in Albania, marking an important step towards building a modern, professional local administration prepared for European standards. During the presentation of the Academy, the Minister of State for Local Government, Ervin Demo, emphasized that this institution “is no longer an idea or a vision, but a tangible reality for local government” , describing it as a strategic instrument for strengthening the state at the local level.
At a key moment for Albania's European integration process, the Academy takes on a special role. Minister Demo recalled that integration is not only a political process, but also a technical and administrative one, emphasizing that "A very large part of the acquis communautaire is implemented at the local level." This, according to him, places local government at the forefront of confronting European standards of governance and public services.
The Academy will train the entire local administration, from managers to front-line employees. “Services to citizens must be of European level and we must be ready for the challenges that membership brings,” emphasized the minister, underlining the importance of communication, ethics and the use of digital tools. Another priority is to improve the management of local finances, so that investments are planned where they create real and sustainable development.
