The dead body of former President Bujar Nishani, who passed away a few days ago in a hospital in Berlin, is expected to arrive tomorrow.

It is learned that in honor of the former president, homage will be paid during the two days, June 1 and 2, in the premises of the Presidency in the 'Skënderbeu' hall.

On Thursday, the former president will be escorted to the last apartment accompanied by a mortuary procession to the Lana Bridge and then will be escorted to the Sharra cemetery in Tirana.

Tribute ceremony

The arrival of the coffin with the body of President Bujar Nishani in Tirana early in the morning and will be placed in the "Skënderbeu" Hall of the Presidential Institution.

-In the morning from 10:00 to 14:00 and in the afternoon from 16.30 to 22.00, the family will receive occasional visits and homage from relatives, friends and loved ones.

Dt. June 2, 2022 (Thursday)

10: 00-12.00 Official homage according to the ceremonial and state protocol.

After 12.00, the coffin with the body of President Nishani, accompanied by the funeral procession goes on foot to the Lana Bridge, then leaves for the Sharra cemetery where the funeral ceremony will take place.

The sixth former President of the Republic of Albania, post-communist, Bujar Nishani, passed away 2 days ago, after being hospitalized in Germany for weeks and passed away clinically without the possibility of return. The former head of state's health situation worsened after he was infected with COVID-19 two months ago. He was suffering from an autoimmune disease in the liver and failed to overcome the consequences that the infamous virus had left on his body. Nishani was initially hospitalized in the Senatorium and after his initial rehabilitation, he returned to the hospital because the post-COVID symptoms left him with signs of pneumonia in his lungs.

His condition stabilized for a while. But then it got worse. On April 23, he left for Germany for treatment, where he died. 

Bujar Nishani was born on September 29, 1966 and he took over the presidency on July 24, 2012 and ended it on July 24, 2017, while becoming the youngest president to die in Albania.
