Today, the agreement of understanding was signed with the 4iG company, for the construction of a direct underwater cable line between Albania and Egypt.

In his speech, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that fiber optic cable networks are the highways of digital communication and thanks to the implementation of this project, an underwater intercontinental connection will become possible, where Albania will have a key position in enabling this strategic connection. .

He said that this project is an important stone of what Albania will be in 2030.

" It will guarantee an access to this new Mediterranean route for a number of Central European countries, I think that on the one hand this is a welcome project because it significantly increases the scale of the mosaic of projects to transform Albania into a champion country for innovation, but it is also an important project for the confidence of the enterprise as a whole. The project does not have staggering numbers, but in its essence it is a staggering project in terms of the impact and value it will create. This is a milestone in the Albania of 2030 ," said Rama.

The Memorandum of Understanding foresees, among other things, the fulfillment of the commitments that Albania has, also within the framework of cooperation with strategic partners such as the USA and the European Union, regarding the observance of the highest security standards and reliable digital infrastructure, as well as connectivity with third countries, promoting that during the conception of the implementation of these projects ensure: the choice of reliable providers for submarine cables (subsea cable providers) in particular for intercontinental ICT projects that promote reliable suppliers/companies for alternative digital routes connecting Europe, North America and Asia.
