Albania is one step closer to the European Union. Today, our country holds the third intergovernmental conference in Brussels, when negotiations for Cluster 6 'Foreign Relations' are officially opened.
"Albania has shown excellent progress," said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary (which holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU) at a joint conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama and Marta Kos, Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations.
" After 6 months of effort, I can say that we have achieved an achievement for us. In order to speed up access for the Western Balkan countries and with the Hungarian presidency we have managed to speed it up. As for the countries of the region, we understand very well the peace of the Western Balkan countries. We owe a lot of respect to these countries and this process has had postponed dates. Therefore, we would like all the countries of the Western Balkans to be part of the EU.
In the last 6 months, we have made every effort to accelerate the enlargement process. For Albania, the negotiations began in 2022, while in two months we have had two intergovernmental conferences and two group chapters have been opened. More has happened in two months than in 15 years.
Albania has shown excellent progress. That's why we are opening this chapter group today so that Albania can move forward. The last time we opened a chapter group for Albania was 3 years ago, it is our common interest for this country to achieve.
"Hungarian companies are now part of the Albanian market. One of the Telecom companies is present. Considering that, the Albanian and Hungarian governments signed an agreement not long ago to train the administration," he said.
