The Special Prosecutor's Office announced on Wednesday the seizure of about 1 million euros in real estate belonging to the former director of the Operational Force, Oltion Bistri , arrested in July, as part of investigations into several criminal groups in the country.

His name was revealed thanks to the decryption by the Belgian and Dutch justice authorities of the communications made through the encrypted service Sky EncroChat, which were handed over to the Special Prosecutor's Office.

In the official announcement, the prosecution made it known that "from the investigations conducted and the evidence administered, it was evidenced that since 2015 and following, the investigated Oltion Bistri and his family members have carried out some suspicious transactions related to the sale and purchase of real estate".

It is about at least three apartments in Tirana, with a total area of ​​over 900 square meters, with an estimated value of over 450 thousand euros, as well as two shops, in the capital, with a total area of ​​220 square meters, the value of which amounts to over 530 thousand euros.

Former senior police officer, Bistri has a long experience in the police, where he held several important positions. The operational forces that he led until a few days before the arrest are among the most important structures that perform, among other things, environmental surveillance on behalf of the prosecution.

Bistri is suspected of having provided information to criminal elements, which he provided due to his duty.

During the operation that led to his arrest, the head of the Kukes Prosecutor's Office, Xhevair Lita, former police officer, well-known names of the world of crime, and businessman Pëllumb Gjoka ended up in handcuffs. The latter is suspected of being involved in a murder.

The name of the businessman Gjoka has often been mentioned in political circles, since the opposition has accused him of being a person involved in buying votes in favor of the socialist party.

Previously engaged in gambling, in July 2021 his company Imperial Group was granted the status of strategic investor for the construction of a tourist resort in Velipojë, with a value of 52 million euros. Investment which does not appear to have started yet./ VOA
