"I am a veteran with documents, this is who I had as a commander" -

Dritan Goxhaj, one of the protagonists of the protests in Tirana, has said that the accusations against him were made with the intention of diverting attention from the protesters' demands.

After reading five demands on behalf of the protesters days ago, Goxhaj was accused by the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, and well-known political figures in Kosovo and Albania of not even being part of the Kosovo Liberation Army's war as he claims, or of having ties to the Iranian regime.

On KTV's "Interaktiv", Goxhaj said that all the attacks "came with the aim of distracting attention."

He has denied everything, saying that all the accusations against him were false.

"Psychologically, it is known for manipulating the people – to deal with the individual. And I did not introduce myself there either by name or surname, nor as a former member of the KLA. The KLA was not the subject of the protest, nor of the presentation, nor of the speech.

It was nowhere. It's a story from 30 years ago. It's over, but this story had to be raised with false documents... I am a veteran of the KLA. I didn't declare it, but the Government. The documentation is near the offices of the Government of Kosovo. Absolutely. Even the certificates, everything," he said.

Commenting on a statement by Xhavit Haliti indicating who his commander was during the war, Goxhaj said that he was under the orders of Bislim Zyrap.

"During Operation 'Arrow' in Pashtrik, I was under the orders of Bislim Zyrapi," he said, adding that he is recognized as part of the war during the period March - June 1999. As a veteran, he said that he was recognized in the period 2018-2019.

Regarding the accusation of supporting Iran, Goxhaj said that this is a matter of principles.

"If I was part of the war, where we were protected from genocide, I cannot be with someone who commits genocide against another people," he said.

Regarding the protests, Goxhaj said that they are a war of nerves. "The one who has nerves and resists the most wins. The citizens will resist. It seems that there is resistance. I hope there will be more and we will see how long the Government will last," he continued.

He assessed that several goals were achieved through the protests.

"Those who say that this people have no reaction and that their nerves have died are disappointed. There is an engaged youth that was not interested in anything until now. The middle class that was engaged and that felt insulted and unintegrated, has taken to the streets. We knew each other well and now there are 27 days of peaceful protests where not a single bottle of water has been thrown," he said.
