Taulant Balla will be the new Minister of the Interior, replacing Bledi Çuçi. He comes to this post after 6 years as chairman of the SP parliamentary group.

The appointment of Balla was decided after the resignation of the deputy Rrahman Rraja, whose family members were involved in the serious incident in Kruja where they raped 2 Maja cousins.

The whole event shocked public opinion and the head of the government decided to make these changes in the Ministry of Interior.

Taulant Balla was born on August 12, 1977 in Librazhd, where he attended primary and secondary school. With high results, he completed his studies and master's degree in political science and international relations at "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University in Iasi, Romania.

He entered politics in 2005 when he was first elected as an MP and served as a member of the cabinet of then Prime Minister Fatos Nano. Since then, he has not been absent from the Parliament of Albania.

Balla has held several positions and has been described as the number 2 of the SP. In addition to being the chairman of the socialist parliamentary group, he was appointed Chairman of the Delegation of the Parliament of Albania to the European Parliament and Deputy Chairman of the National Council of European Integration.

After Gramoz Ruçi's decision to leave politics, he was elected General Secretary of the SP, a post he held until after the 2021 elections, where he was replaced by Damian Gjiknuri.

During all this time he has been one of the most powerful voices of the current majority and has often faced the opposition and its accusations. 

The opposition has on many occasions denounced Taulant Balla as being connected to gangs and crime. 

His name often appears in sensational denunciations of the opposition, as in the case of the Toyota Yaris, the audio interception of the brother of the Minister of the Interior Fatmir Xhafaj, etc.

But the irony with his appointment as Minister of the Interior after the violence of Rraja, is that in September 2018, Taulant Balla appears in another sensational scandal with Rraja.

He was accused by former police officer Emiljano Nuhu, who is now in political asylum, that no. 2 of the SP had intervened with his presence at the police station for Nuhu to close the case by threatening not to arrest the son of the socialist deputy of Kruja, Rexhep Rraja. His son was accused of violence, rape, threats and stalking, by the 25-year-old victim Xisiela Maloku.
