The head of the parliamentary group Taulant Balla has requested the removal from the agenda and the transfer for consideration in the next session of the draft law "On some additions and amendments to law no. 33, dated 31.03.2021, "On the Guard of the Republic of Albania", as amended". His request was also approved with the votes of the opposition.
The DP considers this bill, Balla's initiative, as a service being provided to Prime Minister Edi Rama's driver.
Balla denies it, saying that the hoaxes being made about the Republican Guard are a disgrace and that they deserve respect.
Klevis Balliu leveled accusations at the majority.
According to him, this bill is being drafted specifically for one person, for Prime Minister Edi Rama's driver to become a head guard.
"The draft law for the Guard is a suit prepared by the Prime Minister to bring in the preferred head of the Guard. Parliament cannot make a draft law for one person. There is no one in the Guard or Parliament who does not know that this draft law is being made to make Simon, the driver's man, the head of the rank. It is a draft law for the interests of an individual. Parliament cannot make laws for an individual, but for the interests of every Albanian," he said.
Meanwhile, Taulant Balla responded, adding that none of these accusations are true.
" I didn't understand how you can ask the committees for more time to prepare for the debate and come here to say otherwise; this is a typical example of a case where they don't know what they are asking for. In my capacity as the group leader, I have requested an adjournment for the next session. What was said is not true."
The Guard is the elite in the group of security institutions in the country. Guard employees deserve respect. We should always offer our support to the Guard, which performs an important task, and any accusations or insinuations and slander against the Guard are base.
The Guard serves the state authorities, regardless of whether you are in government or opposition. The Speaker of the Assembly stands by my proposal. It is a working practice, because we have many other issues; this should be passed in the session on the 23rd ," said Balla.
