The hearing of the government with interest groups for the return of sports betting has started today. In his speech, Prime Minister Rama said that there has been a positive pressure for several months.
Despite the decision to bring it back, the head of government again defended the closure of betting a few years ago.
" This invitation is the result of a positive pressure that has been going on for many months on your part, as you have repeated to the government the request to consider the formalization of sports betting.
We have followed this debate that you have opened, the Minister of Education and Sports has communicated with you to listen closely to your concern, but also your claims. Undoubtedly, here we are talking about a potential amount of income that would be very valuable for the sports activity, either for the federations of many sports or for the AFL. We have a context which must be understood and about which I will say two words.
We decided to stop gambling given a dramatic situation with the infinity of bingo halls and those machines, a social concern for the little ones, but also with dramatic situations leading to tragedy ," said Rama.
