Negotiations with the EU for the 'Green Agenda' open/ Rama: There are
Edi Rama and Marta Kos

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the opening of 4 new chapters of negotiations for Albania's membership in the European Union.

In Brussels, the head of government was received by Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement.

The Prime Minister said that there are still 5 more chapters to be opened, while Kos said that they will be closed within the year.

Cluster 4 includes key areas such as green transition, environmental protection, clean energy, sustainable transport interconnection, which are at the heart of the European Green Deal and the EU's strategic priorities.

Excerpts from the conversation:

EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos: Please come, join us, we need an audience.

Dear Edi, this is the expansion wall. Of course, we are now focused on this part, because this is really an exception to the way we used to do this. Albania has moved so fast! When I came in December, almost everything was in red. Red means it has not opened yet, yellow means it has opened and green means it is provisionally closed.

Prime Minister Edi Rama: Then we should put the yellow ones there.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos: Yes, of course.

It seems we have just opened another chapter. Dear Prime Minister, dear Edi, you have the honor that while I remove the red, you will put on the new color.

Prime Minister Edi Rama: Okay.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos: Let's take them off. One, two, three, four.

Prime Minister Edi Rama: Four. There are five more left and they are all open.

EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos: And, of course, we will do it within this year, according to plan, and I strongly support your plan to close the negotiations, which means, to have them all green by 2027 and, then, of course, to have you in the EU as soon as possible. For me, it is deeply impressive the commitment, yours personally – because this is about leadership – and the team, which is doing well; not only you, but the whole team. Congratulations, once again. It is truly a privilege for me to work with you.

Prime Minister Edi Rama: The honor is all ours. I also want to thank your team in Albania, who always "keep an eye on us", to make sure that we don't get distracted and that we don't think too much of ourselves.
