The American Embassy has reacted to the attack on the chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, who was punched by a person on Tuesday morning, while the opposition protest was starting.

"We were scandalized by the physical attack today against a member of Parliament and we expect the authorities to fully investigate the incident. No one should be attacked for exercising freedom of speech in accordance with the law," an embassy spokesperson told A2 CNN.

He was immediately neutralized by his bodyguards and other supporters, who beat the man by punching and kicking him.


According to the first information, it is suspected that the person has mental health problems. He has been identified as Gert Shehu, 31 years old, a resident of Tirana and originally from Tepelena.
