American journalist Marc Caputo made a statement through a post on the social network X according to which the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, can travel to the United States of America even though he has been declared non grata by the Joe Biden administration.

According to Caputo, the State Department has confirmed that Berisha can travel to the US.

"We routinely grant exemptions to facilitate travel for certain individuals to the United States in accordance with our national interests. We will not allow the relationship with Albania to be held hostage by politicized Biden-era decisions," Caputo quoted an unidentified official as saying.

On May 19, 2021, the US Secretary of State of the Biden administration, Antony J. Blinken, declared former Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and his family non grata "for major corruption."
