Prime Minister Edi Rama has appeared in Parliament, as the Socialist Party's draft law on magistrates' salaries is being discussed in the plenary session.

The SP draft foresees an increase of about 8,500 lek in the reference salary, while magistrates are requesting an increase about 9 times higher, also approved by the Supreme Court and the Supreme Administrative Court.

The draft law has been opposed by the opposition, and the head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, called the initiative a "constitutional coup" and declared that the Democrats will vote against it.

The opposition requested the withdrawal of the draft law for further consultations with justice institutions, but the request was rejected with 79 votes against.

We recall that Rama, together with his son, Gregory, traveled yesterday after the meeting in Korça to Greece, to go to the Monastic State of Athos and the great holy monastery of Vatopedi.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and his son spent the night in this monastery, only leaving this morning.
