During the November 2024 meeting, Prime Minister Edi Rama told Albanians in London that his government would enter into talks with the British side to see the possibility of correcting the data of Albanians registered as Kosovars in England.
During the press conference with Prime Minister Starmer, Edi Rama spoke about this issue which affects thousands of Albanians in Great Britain.
This was Edi Rama's stance on this issue at a time when the Home Office, since 2010, has begun revoking the British citizenship of more than 1,800 Albanians after discovering that they had obtained citizenship through fraud.
"It is time to examine another problem we have in Great Britain with many Albanians, who arrived and settled in Britain many years ago, are all integrated into the life of Great Britain, but at the time of their arrival they used passports, or more precisely they used Kosovo identity to gain acceptance as war refugees, while leaving a country in extreme difficulty.
They today live with two identities, one identity for the British state, one identity here in Albania, and have ongoing problems that can be solved, considering that they have been fully integrated citizens for more than 20 years and are contributors to the economy and social life of Britain with great dignity.
"And the last thing is that there are approximately 50 thousand Albanians with British passports who contribute to the British state and approximately 50 thousand others with Albanian passports who contribute to the British state as honest and regular contributors and it is unacceptable for us, especially after all this work that we have done together with the British government, that Albanians continue to be stigmatized as if they are the problem of Great Britain by a number of media sources," declared Edi Rama, thus raising hope for thousands of Albanians in Great Britain in constant anxiety about the removal of British citizenship by the Home Office.
