Heading to Brussels for negotiations, Rama also participating in the summit with
Prime Minister Edi Rama in Brussels

Prime Minister Edi Rama will lead the Albanian delegation at the third intergovernmental conference with the European Union to be held in Brussels on Tuesday, December 17.

This is the 6th chapter group, which includes foreign, security and defense policy.

It is learned that in the Belgian capital, the foreign policy group chapter will be finalized in a short time, as our country has shown a willingness to align decision-making with Brussels in imposing sanctions on Russia following the aggression in Ukraine, as well as the stance on the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

This third intergovernmental conference will be the second during the Hungarian presidency, after the one held in Luxembourg on October 15, where Albania opened five accession chapters covering fundamental issues such as Judiciary and Fundamental Rights, Justice, Procurement, Statistics, Security and Financial Control.

In this rapid pace of negotiations, the role of independent justice institutions such as SPAK in the fight against corruption and organized crime is being evaluated.

Prime Minister Rama aims for the negotiation process to be completed in 2027, so that Albania can be a full member of the European Union by 2030.

On Wednesday, Rama will sit down with other regional leaders at the summit table with the 27 EU counterparts, the first event chaired by the new EC President Antonio Costa and also the new Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
