A citizen from North Macedonia and two others from Kosovo were put under investigation in 2017, after they were accused of preparing an attack to execute then-opposition leader Lulzim Basha.

Even in April 2017, Lulzim Basha began to fear an assassination attempt, while an increase of the Guard was assigned to him, who was responsible for the physical protection of the leader of the opposition, Lulzim Basha. 

The sudden addition of the opposition leader's escort cast doubt on whether we were dealing with a threat to Lulzim Basha. This is exactly how it turned out, as the investigations were extended to our country, while three people were targeted by the investigators.

Under investigation for the possible assassination attempt on Lulzim Basha were:

AM, born on 20.12.1959, resident of Pançe Poposki St., Gostivar. Since 1998, he has been an employee of the Gostivar police in the crime and technical department/Scientific Police. He is a person involved in illegal drug trafficking activities and is known as a person who is ready to do anything for money.

AY born on 27.08.1981 from Prishtina, known by the nickname "Japan". Radical practitioner of the Islamic religion, former jihadist fighter in Syria and links to radical elements who have fought in Syria. He is known as a high risk person. He was arrested in January 2016, after he was found on the road to the monastery of Deçan with a uniform and a weapon, together with citizen Alban Kelmendi from Ferizaj, Kujtim Kurti from Gjakova and Kushtrim Rama, from Rashkoci i Gjakova.

FG, born on 21.06.196." Suspected of being involved in the 2010 assassination attempt on AM from Durrës, due to competition related to gambling in Ferizaj, Kosovo.

Recently, new details have been published regarding this indication of a possible attack for the physical elimination of Lulzim Basha. However, after three years of observation and other investigative actions, they were not implicated and the case was dismissed.

The suspects who passed through the filters of Interpol, Antiterror, and former Serious Crimes, Afrim Morina, were not arrested.

According to available documents, the investigation began in April 2017, following a request from the Anti-Terrorist Unit. The clue came after an interview given by President Bujar Nishani, where he stated that there are actors who want to destabilize the country. The fact that the opposition leader's safety, Nishani added at the time, will be considered seriously by law enforcement agencies in the country.

Janë administruar përgjimet e telekomunikacioneve theksohet më tej sikurse edhe përgjigjet nga Interpoli. Në fund të 2019 nga kqyrjet e telefonit të A.Y i pyetur për shkaqet e udhëtimit drejt Shqipërisë i zbulohen 29 numra telefoni. Në 2019 ai ka komunikuar me një numër telefoni në Monako, dhe me numra të tjerë të familjes që tregojnë se ai ishte i interesuar për të udhëtuar në Angli. Gjatë këtij viti ai vjen në Shqipëri dhe konkretisht në Durrës dhe përmes Viber komunikon në serbisht e anglisht për të garantuar largimin drejt Britanisë së Madhe.

Nga kqyrjet evidentohen edhe përgjime të tjera në Gmail dhe Facebook nga të cilat prokuroria thotë se nuk siguroi të dhëna konkrete.

This citizen discusses personal problems and mentions accusations. The investigators point out that no connections between these persons and others have been found to create the conviction for the commission of the suspected acts and no actions have been found that could endanger the life of the leader of the opposition. This decision to stop the investigation was announced in the middle of the week to Antiterror, while the court will put the seal on whether or not the investigation should be stopped.
