As the Albanian diaspora prepares to vote for the first time in an electoral process in their homeland, without the need to physically return to the country, the interest shown has been considerable.

Over 65 thousand requests have been registered to date, with around 41 thousand having been officially approved by the CEC.

Although the greatest interest has been shown by countries where the Albanian diaspora is most present, such as Italy, Greece or the United States, there has been no shortage of requests from Albanians on other continents.

Thus, the first places in the official CEC rankings are filled by Albanians in the countries of the European Union, Great Britain, the USA and Canada.

There has been no lack of interest from as far away as Australia, where 90 requests to vote in the May 11 parliamentary elections have been received so far.

Another place that stands out for the number of registered applications is the Caribbean island of Anguilla, from where 49 applications were received by the CEC. In the Caribbean, 38 applications were received from Albanians in the British Virgin Islands.

Another 46 requests to vote have been registered from the island of Saint Helena, which is located in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean, between Brazil and West Africa.

On the other hand, interest has also been present in Russia and Ukraine, despite the fact that the two Eastern European countries are part of an almost 3-year-old armed conflict. Thus, 5 requests have been registered from the Russian Federation, while only one from Ukraine.

Dozens of requests have been registered in the Middle East, specifically 36 applications from the United Arab Emirates, 10 each from Qatar and Kuwait, 8 from Saudi Arabia and Israel, 3 from Egypt and Afghanistan, and 1 from Bahrain.

Although few, applications have not been lacking from Africa or distant Asia.

So far, 10 applications have been received from China, 8 from Japan, 7 from New Zealand and 2 from South Korea, among others. As for the African continent, applications have been received from Algeria, South Africa, Angola, Zambia, Congo and Gabon.

Another continent where interest has been shown, albeit at almost negligible levels, is Latin America.

Albanians who have applied to vote are located in countries such as Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Chile.

Other countries that can be mentioned, where Albanians have shown electoral interest, are India, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Vietnam, the Philippines or Madagascar.

Applications for diaspora voters will be open until March 4, 2025, and anyone who is rejected by this date has the right to try again.
