The Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed concern to the Serbian ambassador to our country, following the expulsion of two Albanian citizens who were part of a seminar in Belgrade together with a group of young people from non-governmental organizations from EU countries.
Ambassador Slobodan Vukevic was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, where he was informed of this concern and clarifications were requested regarding this case.
Dozens of young men and women were attending a seminar in Belgrade organized by NGOs based in Austria and other EU countries when their hotel was raided and they were expelled from Serbia on the grounds of “undermining national security.” They have also been banned from entering Serbia for a year.
Reaction of the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
MFA'S REACTION TO THE DETENTION AND REMOVAL FROM THE TERRITORY OF SERBIA OF TWO ALBANIAN CITIZENS
Today, January 23, 2025, the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Slobodan Vukčević, was summoned to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, regret and serious concern were expressed regarding the detention and removal from the territory of Serbia of two Albanian citizens, representatives of civil society, who participated in a seminar in Belgrade.
This action is not considered consistent with our desire and efforts to maintain good neighborly relations, and has a negative impact on the free movement of our citizens.
The MEPJ requested clarifications regarding this case and stressed the need for the Serbian authorities to review and consider appealing the decisions taken. It was also requested that such events not be allowed to repeat in the future.
This case is being followed with full attention by the Albanian Embassy in Belgrade.
