Afghans remaining in Albania after the American withdrawal from Afghanistan 4 years ago will not be able to continue their journey to the United States for an indefinite period.

Among the dozens of executive orders signed by Donald Trump on the first day of his presidency is one to suspend flights to the United States for Afghans who fled their country in August 2021 to escape persecution as collaborators of the Americans by the newly installed Taliban regime.

According to CNN, Trump's executive order threatens the future of Afghan refugees who were helped by the United States.

"Afghans who fled to escape the Taliban regime are calling on Trump to lift the suspension of the refugee program," writes the Associated Press.

While Fox News writes that "Trump's order leaves thousands of Afghan allies waiting to relocate to the US in limbo."

The executive order has a 90-day deadline, but their fate is unclear given Trump's tough approach to immigrants.

The Albanian Foreign Ministry, responding to the interest of Klan Television, explained that currently in Albania there are only Afghan immigrants who have received special visas for immigrants, who are in a transit period and stay in the country for a limited time.

They stay for an average of up to 23 days before continuing their journey to the United States. The exact number of Afghans remaining in Albania is not known. The 90-day suspension directly affects 1,800 Afghans, who are on the list to be withdrawn to the United States during these 3 months.

A total of 30,000 are waiting in various countries around the world. The vast majority are in neighboring Pakistan, where they found refuge after fleeing the Taliban. So far, 180,000 have moved to the United States.
