British MP Andrew Rosindell has reacted to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama's statements regarding the protests in Albania, emphasizing that every politician has the right to express his opinions on developments in other countries.
Rosindell said that during a visit to Tirana last year, he had conversations with many young Albanians who, according to him, had expressed a desire to leave the country. He added that Albania's eventual membership of the Schengen area could further facilitate this movement.
The British MP also pointed out that in 2022 Albanian citizens made up the largest group of immigrants who arrived illegally in the United Kingdom in small dinghies, raising the question of the reasons that push young Albanians to leave their country.
According to him, the main debate should focus on the factors that drive the emigration of young Albanians, and not on political clashes between leaders.
He added that, while the Albanian Prime Minister is free to comment on Britain, he himself also has the right to express his opinion on Albania.
This, referring to some statements by Rama months ago, which stated that: "Britain left Europe because it wanted fewer ships and there are more ships. It left Europe because it wanted more investments. There are fewer investments,"
British MP's post
"Prime Minister Rama is free to comment on Britain, just as I am free to comment on Albania. Last year I spoke to many young Albanians in Tirana who told me they wanted to leave the country, which will become even more possible with Albania's entry into Schengen."
In 2022, Albanian nationals were the largest group to arrive illegally by small boats in the United Kingdom.
The real question is why so many young Albanians felt they had to leave their country in the first place.
"I will take lessons on sovereignty from the British people, not from a foreign prime minister. Brexit was about democratic self-government and that principle remains as important today as ever," the British MP wrote.
