Debate on the Albanian language in North Macedonia, Rama's message to
Prime Minister Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama participated in an evening organized by the youth of the "Arben Xhaferi" Foundation.

During his speech, the head of government commented on the debate on the Albanian language, saying that the problem is not the people themselves, but the leaders.

He further added that instead of curing this ethnopolitical strabismus, leaders use and exploit it.

"I'm glad I'm here today and that the wish of the girls and boys of the foundation came true. They really wanted to make this activity happen. It's not the best thing that can happen to be given the floor to talk about Arben Xhaferi when you can't focus enough to say something that would make you feel okay. In these cases, the risk is that people of extraordinary proportions are commemorated and ordinary speeches and praises are made. Not wanting to miss this evening, I had to negotiate with the guys from the foundation, which could be interpreted. I wanted to share with you some words that are Arben Xhaferi's, not mine. Today they are a reflection of that at best. Arben Xhaferi is asked what his dream is, and he answers "the integrity of the Albanian people."

I do not believe that there is any other country, neither in the East nor in the West, where Western values are more widely spoken of, where Western values are more widely preached as political and cultural values. I do not believe that any country that has walked the path of joining the European family after leaving the regime period has used the word 'integration' more. I also do not believe that these words, used like money during an inflationary crisis, have been further removed from their bearers and users than here in this country.

The peoples of the Balkans suffer from strabismus and trying to add something. The problem is not the peoples themselves, it is the leaderships, instead of curing this ethnopolitical strabismus, they use it and exploit it by continuously trying to keep the object of discussion and the need not to see each other distortedly from the center," said Rama.
