Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has continued his protest even today, while the American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken is on a historic visit to Tirana.
As there are only a few hours left before he leaves for Munich, Blinken has not yet met any figure of the Albanian opposition.
This apparently revolted Berisha, who pointed out this fact from the window of his house.
We recall that the American State Department led by Blinken declared Berisha and his family "non grata" for major corruption and obstruction of justice. This was also the start of the big crack that finds the DP today divided into several factions.
Part of Berisha's speech:
Dear democrats and democrats, resistance fighters, true missionaries of dignity, of hope, of the future of Albanians.
A warm, fraternal greeting to you and all Albanians, who are looking forward to February 20, the day of their marriage.
Dear friends, today the chief diplomat of the USA, the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, came to Albania.
I use this opportunity to guarantee the US government, the president of the country, that the DP, the political force that overthrew communism, the political force that became the main promoter of friendly relations between Albania and the US and Western countries, of Albania's membership in NATO, has been and remains always determined to continue on this path of friendship cooperation in the framework of NATO and in the bilateral framework.
Nothing shakes our positions, our pro-Western position stems from the Western vocation of the Albanian nation.
We were founded as a party of western vocation, but my friends, what was in this sixth visit of a secretary of state since 1991, what was I would say for Albania, bitter, was that this was a visit to Albania monist.
Because for the first time in an official visit, a secretary of state meets only representatives of one party. The President, Lali Vjedhsi, Edi Rama, Altin Duman, Sokol Sadushi and so on.
The truth is that I cannot say that he would like such a protocol.
