Sali Berisha

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, considers the May 11 parliamentary elections, where the Socialist Party won its fourth governing mandate, an electoral farce.

In a press conference from the DP headquarters, Berisha demanded the removal of Edi Rama, the creation of a caretaker government and the re-run of parliamentary elections.

Sali Berisha leveled accusations at Edi Rama, saying that he is paying sums of money to change the international report on the elections in Albania.

"I also express my conviction and faith that the international community's report, against which Edi Rama is paying extraordinary amounts to change, endless phone calls, will not succeed."

The report will be the truest reflection of this farce, for which once again, Albanians will have the say.

"There is only one way, the departure of Edi Rama, a technical government and the repetition of elections. No other alternative will save Albanians from the electoral farce installed in Albania ," Berisha said.

Asked by journalists if he would resign from the leadership of the DP to pave the way for a new leader, Berisha said that he could not resign, as according to him he did not lose, but that the May 11 elections were a farce.

He said that he resigned when he lost the 2013 elections, while also explaining why he supported Lulzim Basha at that time as chairman of the Democratic Party.

"I thought about it and I made it a reality. I made it a reality. This question cannot be asked of me, because when I lost an election that was not a farce, I resigned."

And a young man came after me. I didn't choose him, the DP membership chose him. After he was elected, I supported him because I was simply a loyal party member of my political force. But you can't help but say that he wasn't young.

He was young. It's another matter what representation he made for his generation. That wasn't my responsibility. There are thousands of others because I never believe in irreplaceability.

But the question you asked me, I am the person who has tried and proven it. And I have acted very correctly.

"I am not guided by prejudice. I thought that a new generation would be a great chance for the political force ," Berisha said.
