Berisha receives MEP Gahler: AKSHI affair, more serious than the
Meeting with Michael Gahler

The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, hosted today, in a meeting at the DP headquarters, MEP Michael Gahler, coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of the People's Party in the European Parliament.

During the meeting, Berisha expressed to the high European representative the opposition's concerns about corruption affairs in the government and the affair at the AKSHI, as well as "Rama's efforts to intervene in legislation, with the aim of creating a shield for his and his ministers' corruption."

Berisha stressed that the legal amendments aimed by Rama harm not only the fight against corruption, but also the European integration process. According to the DP leader, the opposition unconditionally supports the EU integration process, but demands that this process be inclusive, based on merit and not used for propaganda purposes by the government.

Berisha also gave an overview of the “AKSHI scandal.” He said that this affair for Albania surpasses the 'Epstein affair', not only as a corrupt act, but according to him, also because it affects a fundamental part of the state structure, including cybersecurity.

Berisha and Gahler also touched on the recent elections in Albania, where the leader of the Democratic Party expressed his satisfaction with the fact that an observation mission was sent by the European Parliament, and the MEP was part of it and was able to see for himself those "serious violations" that the OSCE report highlights, but also the 7 international resolutions that "have condemned the manipulated Albanian elections."

Berisha also accused Rama of "having connections with criminals and drug traffickers."
