Prime Minister Edi Rama is headed to Washington today, in response to the invitation of US President Donald J. Trump to participate in the official establishment of the Peace Board and the start of the activity of this Board, where Albania will be a founding state.
Meanwhile in Tirana, the chairman of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, debated with German MEP, Michael Gahler, during the visit of a delegation of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee to our country.
EPP MEP Gahler has demanded explanations as to why Albania immediately agreed to participate in the Peace Board, an initiative of US President Donald Trump.
In his response, Taulant Balla reminded him that Albania has a special relationship with the United States of America and asked him to ask the European Council why EU countries do not have a common position on this issue, where some countries have confirmed participation and some others have not.
During the meeting, Balla raised concerns about the trial taking place in The Hague against Kosovo leaders.
" Any attempt to equate victims with perpetrators would bring destabilization. The European Parliament should follow up on this issue ," Balla said.
We recall that, a few days ago, when announcing his participation in this event, Prime Minister Rama stated that " Albania will not contribute with money to join or to remain as a permanent member, but contributes with dignity and with what has made it internationally respected and invited, to this high level of discussion on the future of peace ."
The Peace Board initiated by US President Trump aims to strengthen Peace in the Middle East and, at the same time, undertake a bold new approach to resolving Global Conflict.
