The EU again "slaps" Greece for Beleri: It is a bilateral issue!

The European Commission hopes that North Macedonia will start accession talks with the EU as soon as possible and, referring to the bilateral disputes between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, as well as Albania and Greece, reiterated the position that these bilateral disputes should not delay the membership process.

Commission spokeswoman Ana Pisonero reiterated those Commission positions at a news conference Tuesday when asked, indirectly, about Fredi Beller's incarceration and whether the Commission sees it as strictly a bipartisan issue or one that should also concern the EU.

Pisonero declined to comment on the Beleri case, saying the Commission does not comment on pending litigation.

She also referred to Bulgaria's request that North Macedonia recognize the existence of a Bulgarian minority in its constitution. She said that the current government is committed to changing the constitution of North Macedonia.
