Lawyers: Ahmetaj is abroad for family reasons

Arben Ahmetaj's lawyers have stated that the former deputy prime minister is abroad "for family reasons".

The two defense lawyers, Henrik Ligori and Ardian Visha, confirmed yesterday during the Mandates Council meeting that Ahmetaj is abroad.

According to reports, Ahmetaj left Albania on Friday, July 7, from Greece, from where he is suspected to have left for Canada.

However, the lawyers of the former minister, whom SPAK wants to arrest, have not given more details about the location and the reasons for his departure.

The meeting on the fate of Ahmetaj's mandate is continuing in the Presidency of the Assembly, while the decision on the session on when SPAK's request will be put to a vote, will be taken at the end of the meeting of the Council of Mandates.
