Five months after being appointed by the US Department of State to the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Balkans, Alexander Kasanoff makes his first visit to Albania.

Kasanof arrived in Tirana on Wednesday afternoon.

Diplomatic sources confirmed to A2CNN that Kasanof's visit to Albania is only related to his participation in an event for the 5th anniversary of SPAK, which is being held on Thursday in the capital. According to the sources, Kasanof will hold a special speech at the event, as a representative of the US, which, together with the EU, are the main originators, financiers and supporters of the Justice Reform.

After arriving in Albania, the senior American official, who is the successor to Gabriel Escobar, made his first visit to the headquarters of the European Union delegation, where he held a one-on-one meeting for almost 60 minutes with the ambassador of the EU delegation, Silvio Gonzato. Together with the United States, the European Union is the main supporter of the justice reform and the independence of SPAK.

The work of the Special Anti-Corruption Structure has caused quite a bit of political reaction in the country, due to the investigation, arrest, or sentencing of high-ranking officials or former officials in the country.

Currently, a special parliamentary committee on anti-corruption and good governance has begun work to advance reforms, but its creation and work are being followed closely and not without concern by the two donors and supporters of justice reform, the US and the EU.

Meanwhile, in early October, the Supreme Court, SPAK, the General Prosecutor's Office, the Supreme Court of Justice, and the High Inspector of Justice announced that they would not participate with experts in this commission, A2CNN reports.
