A decision by the Special Court of Appeals has brought about a situation that raises serious questions, not only about the proportionality of the sentence, but especially about how it will be executed against a mother with a 4-month-old baby.

Yesterday, October 5, 2026, the Appeals Court of Kosovo upheld the first instance decision for Greta Gjoci (Pepa), finally sentencing her to 6 years and 8 months in prison, who is also the mother of a 4-month-old baby. Greta Gjoci is one of 16 people convicted in the call center case run by Bruno Çobo.

Gjoci was not convicted simply for working as an operator in a call center. But according to SPAK, she was found responsible for the criminal offenses of “computer fraud”, committed in collaboration in the form of a structured criminal group, as well as “participation in a structured criminal group”. The investigation is related to a scheme that, according to SPAK, caused Italian citizens a damage of around 4.7 million euros.

Although the financial damage is high, sentencing a mother with a 4-month-old baby borders on madness.

But what makes Greta Gjoci's case particularly delicate is her family situation and the measure under which she has remained for more than three years.

SPAK initially imposed a "house arrest" measure on Greta Pepa, which was executed on July 27, 2023. So, until the final decision of the Appeals Court, she had spent more than three years under a restrictive measure of freedom.

She was initially sentenced to 10 years in prison, but due to the summary trial, her sentence was reduced by a third, ending at 6 years and 8 months.

But the Court of Appeals did not take into account that she was already a mother with a 4-month-old baby, nor did it take into account the fact that she had spent over 3 years under house arrest, but upheld the decision, marking an unprecedented case in the judicial system.

Immediately after the decision, Greta Pepa, along with her 4-month-old baby, is expected to be escorted by the Police at any moment, transferring them to the women's prison in Pojska.

This is a unique case in the so-called "new justice" system, where the Court of Appeals has suppressed every human, family and social aspect.
