An unusual love story from San Diego has sparked a huge debate on social media. Diana Montano, 25, is in a relationship with Edgar, 76, and although the huge 51-year age difference has brought harsh criticism, she says she has finally found the love of her life.
The couple met in July 2024 through a mutual friend and, according to Diana, "there were sparks from the first moment."
Since then, they have been inseparable, but their relationship has not been without difficulties.
Since the publication of their photos on social media, Diana has faced serious insults. "Some write to me: 'I hope you die before him' or 'there is a special place in hell for those who abuse the elderly,'" she confesses. Other comments have called the relationship "disgusting" or "scary."
But she doesn't give up. "It makes us laugh more than it makes us sad. People are quick to judge without knowing us, but I'm happy and that's what matters," says Diana, adding that in addition to the negative comments, she has also received messages of support from those who admire their relationship.
The biggest challenge, she says, has been introducing her partner to her family and friends. “Unlike my friends’ partners who easily fit into the group, it’s more difficult for him because of his age and the places we go,” Diana says. She adds that the family often has to stay with older relatives so that Edgar feels included, while a “language barrier between generations” makes it difficult for him to communicate with younger cousins.
Some relatives have even told her that she is "ruining her life," but she remains determined: "I know I am happy."
Despite their age gap, Diana and Edgar share many common passions: art, theater, nature, and travel. “We’re adventurers. We’ve been hiking, we’re planning to go skiing, and we even want to go skydiving,” she says. According to her, Edgar is in better physical shape than her, as he goes to the gym three times a week.
The only thing they don't get along with is nightlife. Diana likes clubs and bars, while he doesn't, but he's still "very open" to participating in the activities she wants.
As for the future, she's not worried about the fact that her partner is much older. "If at some point he needs special care, we'll work together. It's not something that scares me," Diana says.
She ends her story with a strong statement: "Edgar brings me the best version of myself and I bring him. He is mature, patient, and understands me. I have found my soulmate – there is no one my age who is like him."
