Vienna has been chosen to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, the largest live music event in the world, Austria's public broadcaster announced, with the final set for May 16.

JJ of Austria won this year's competition, held in Basel, Switzerland, with his song Wasted Love, which mixes techno rhythms with operatic vocals, making his host country of 2026.

The final of the 70th edition of Eurovision will be held at the Wiener Stadthalle, Austria's largest indoor arena, with semi-finals set for May 12 and 14, Eurovision said.

Since its launch in 1955, Eurovision has become a major pop music platform, catapulting the Swedish band Abba to world fame, as well as echoing artists such as Céline Dion, Cliff Richard, and Olivia Newton-John.

Around 166 million viewers in 37 countries watched this year's contest, with a record 60% of viewers aged 15 to 24. The contest received even more views on Instagram and TikTok.
