The American actor, Danny Masterson, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping two women. Masterson starred in That 70 Show, a television series that aired in the early 2000s.
Prosecutors claimed the 47-year-old had relied on his status as a leading member of the Church of Scientology to evade responsibility.
As the judge read out his sentence, his wife, Bijou Phillips, was seen in court, breaking down in tears.
Masterson was found guilty in May in a retrial after the original jury was unable to reach a verdict in 2022. The actor was convicted after three women testified that they were sexually assaulted at his Hollywood home between 2001 and 2003. at the height of his television fame.
The court heard evidence that he drugged them before raping them. He was found guilty of raping two of his three accusers. Charges brought by the third woman were dismissed and prosecutors said they did not intend to retry the case.
After his conviction, Masterson was deemed a dangerous person and remanded in custody. The actor was first accused of rape in 2017 at the height of his fame. He denied the allegations and said each of the encounters was consensual. The charges came after a three-year investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
