"My relations with Mitsotakis are good", Rama about the meeting in
Rama in Athens

Prime Minister Edi Rama gave a television interview tonight about the meeting with Albanians living in Greece.

Prime Minister Rama has rejected the claims of the Greek media that he previously booked a hotel to stay one night in Athens before the meeting with the diaspora. Furthermore, Prime Minister Rama spoke about the many security forces that accompanied his meeting, and also told about the relations he has with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

It was said at the beginning that you would come the night before, while the security measures according to Greek journalists did not guarantee your safety and it was seen as a risk. What is the risk?

Edi Rama: There is no connection. What I have seen throughout this period where I have been forced to follow the Greek media more than usual, is that there are many rumors, but there is no connection. We planned to come this day because it is a short distance. The problem was more of the country.

The media reported that you had booked a hotel and canceled it to come only for the meeting and leave again.

Edi Rama: It is not true. We had not requested any meeting with the Greek authorities that we would come for this meeting. Even if we were to ask for a meeting, in the way Greek politics was positioned.

I noticed today that according to Prothotema, 1,500 policemen for your security. What is all this security for?

Edi Rama: You should ask the Greek authorities. To be fair, for the visit of a head of government, special measures are usually taken. An atmosphere was also created because the way that whole process of walking to get the place we had booked ended up in the media and created a situation where this meeting became the center of public attention and of course this may have created the feeling that they take action special.

Why were you not welcome in Greece? How are your reports?

Edi Rama: My relations with Kyriakos Mitsotakis are very good from a personal point of view. In terms of institutional roles, it is known that there is an impasse, it is known what the impasse is, it also makes one aware of what is reflected in the relations between the two governments. We have had an undercurrent in this relationship where things have gone on as normal. Today, it is enough and too much for me that I was the "star" of the Albanians of Greece.
