"GreenMed" will create an optical infrastructure corridor, encouraging connectivity throughout Central Europe, the Balkans and the Central and Eastern Mediterranean countries. Starting from the Italian Adriatic coast, it will go by land to Milan, and then to other major European internet and cloud centers, connecting Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece and Turkey.

The aim of the project is to contribute to the strong growth of the Balkan digital market, which is expected to grow annually by around 25% between 2023 and 2029. This will be achieved by offering a safe and varied route with the existing infrastructure, according to the Italian company.

In a statement to the media, it is clarified that through GreenMed, Sparkle continues to expand its network by creating a route with highly innovative features that crosses the Mediterranean basin to support the demand for intercontinental connections and the growing digitalization of the Balkan area.

They promise a very low latency connection. The inclusion of the island of Crete in the system will also connect it to Sparkle's BlueMed cable, which connects Italy to France, Greece and other Mediterranean countries, ending in the city of Aqaba in Jordan.
