Why young French people are no longer interested in having sex

More than 4 in 10 young people aged 15 to 24 did not have sex in 2021.

But for these young people, this asexual revolution is a way to resist social norms about intimacy and sexuality, reports the French news agency Le Monde .

According to the report, although erotic and suggestive advertisements with almost acrobatic positions are intended to arouse the sexual desires and fantasies of vacationers, and to instruct them that summer holidays are as much an opportunity to sunbathe and enjoy a glass of rosé, as well as an opportunity to 'mate', apparently the situation among French youth shows the complete opposite.

It seems that the results of the annual IFOP survey in February 2022 disprove almost every stereotype about young people under 25 in Europe.

According to the survey, 1,000 young people between the ages of 15 and 24 were also interviewed about their perception of HIV and its dangerousness.

One answer stood out among the others: in the last 12 months, 43% of the young people surveyed had not had sex and 44% had only had sex with one partner.

"Far from the clichés of a hormonal youth whose social interactions are driven by unbridled desires and a lack of professional and marital constraints, teenagers and young adults in France seem to be experiencing a sexual recession," reports Le Monde.

This poll prompted several agency reporters to ask the opinion of more mature generations about the results, and two reactions stood out.

As one of the interviewees immediately reacted by saying: "Can you believe it, almost 1 in 2 young people do not have sex!" someone else replied: "And then what?"
