With the arrival of the hot summer days, the number of incidents involving cars catching fire has started to increase in our country.
At least three such incidents have been recorded in the last week, thankfully without casualties.
But why do cars catch fire in the summer and how can you prevent it?
There are several reasons why cars burst into flames on hot days. But one of the most important is not taking care of the condition of the vehicle.
Flammable materials are dangerous and should not be kept inside the car during the summer. Such items are lighters, perfume spray bottles, air fresheners or hand sanitizers. Make sure to park the car in the shade.
Car maintenance is also important. Before leaving for vacation or on a long road, it is suggested to check the car at a mechanic or electrician to avoid unpleasant incidents.
Another reason is strong braking . By braking hard, but also when the brakes are worn, pressure is applied to various parts of the braking system, generating a lot of heat and therefore flames.
An engine that heats up . Although a high engine temperature above normal does not cause a fire in itself, it can cause a fire to break out in other parts of the engine. For example, an engine that overheats can cause antifreeze or oil to overheat, causing it to explode and wet other electronics.
Low water level in the radiator . The radiator cooling system is vital to the smooth operation of the car. Low water levels can lead to rising temperatures and therefore to fire.
An electric spark . Even an electrical wire can cause a big fire in the car, if not noticed in time. Every car has a complicated electrical system that is good to check from time to time.
So before you leave for vacation or for a long trip, make sure of a few things. The level of oil and antifreeze must be optimal. In no way should the car have oil or water leaks. Long roads and rugged mountains are tough on an old or poorly maintained engine. Let the car stop if you find yourself in such a situation.
