A restaurant in Barcelona, ​​Spain, has topped the list of the world's 50 best restaurants. But those hoping to get a table at the "Disfrutar" restaurant may be disappointed. The waiting list now takes almost a year for reservations.

The name of the restaurant, "Disfrutar", means "enjoy". Located in Barcelona, ​​this restaurant has already become a surprising success story. It has received the highest ratings from the most well-known companies, such as Michelin, that inspect and compile the best restaurant rankings.

Now the restaurant "Disfrutar" has taken the first place in the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world. This is a great honor for the three Catalan chefs, Oriol Castro, Mateu Casanas and Eduard Xatruch, who started this business a few years ago. They met while working at the legendary restaurant "El Bulli" and in 2012 decided to become partners and open their first restaurant. They now run three restaurants and say that receiving the latest award proves the importance of Spanish cuisine.

"In the past it was great French cuisine, but then the movement started here in Spain, with Basque cuisine. There was a revolution with the restaurant 'El Bulli' and without a doubt we continue this revolution, taking the first prize", says chef Oriol Castro.

In 2015, they were awarded their first Michelin star, in 2017 they received their second and in 2023 their third.

As of 2022, they managed to rank third in the list of the world's 50 best restaurants, and a year later they ranked second. But even with this kind of progress, taking first place was shocking.

"Until that moment, they had not made it public that we were the first. We didn't know anything and that makes it a magical moment. So it is incredible, indescribable and incomparable", says chef Mateu Casanas.

The World's 50 Best Restaurants list website describes the restaurant "Disfrutar" as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and praises "brilliantly imaginative cuisine, unsurpassed technical mastery and playful presentation".

Customers can try dishes with pesto in a spherical shape, with soft sticks or eel meat, as well as a unique version of the traditional Spanish "tapas" cooking.

It's no surprise that booking demand is at a record high.

"Since we received the award, the truth is that the problem of reservations has increased. We used to have a waiting list of seven or eight months. Now it's almost a year of waiting", says the manager of the "Disfrutar" restaurant, Vicente Lara.

Receiving the award increases even more the expectations of customers for the team of employees, which has now reached about 75 people.

During the last 22 years that the list of the best restaurants in the world has been published, the winners have been eight times from the region of Catalonia in the northeast of Spain./VOA
