Anna Kanakis, who climbed the beauty queen podium in September 1977, has died in Rome at the age of 61.

The actress and writer, daughter of a Greek father and a Sicilian mother, was elected Miss Sant'Eufemia d'Aspromonte when she was only 15 years old. In 1981 she also participated in Miss Universe and then made her debut in cinema, with small roles in the brilliant comedy alongside Giancarlo Giannini and Ornella Muti. 

The funeral will take place in Rome at 15:00 on November 23 at the church of San Salvatore in Lauro.

Kanakis began her career as a model, then, on the advice of Giuseppe Tornatore, began working as an actress. In 2010, she debuted with novels.
