The 8-year-old son of the late singer Liam Payne, Bear Grey Payne, is set to inherit the artist's entire estate, which is estimated at more than 24 million euros. The news is revealed in new estate administration documents filed with the UK's High Court.
According to the Daily Mail, the documents relate to the estate that the former One Direction member left behind after his death in October 2024. Payne died at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires and had left no will.
Based on British inheritance law, since the singer was not married and did not have a registered civil partnership, the only legal heir to his estate is the son he had with singer Cheryl Tweedy.
The new court documents allow for a portion of the estate to be used for the child's needs and well-being before he reaches the age of majority. The rest of the estate will remain under special administration until Bear turns 18.
In May 2025, Cheryl Tweedy and music industry lawyer Richard Bray were appointed administrators of the estate. Originally only authorized to hold and manage the singer's assets, they can now use them in the interests of the minor heir.
The updated figures show that Payne's wealth is estimated at around £26.5 million before deductions for duties and taxes, while his net worth is around £21.9 million. This is around £2.3 million lower than the estimate made a year ago.
Sources close to his last partner, Kate Cassidy, have revealed that she had no intention of claiming any part of the inheritance, even though she was living with the singer in Florida before his death.
Among the artist's most valuable assets is a luxurious five-bedroom villa in Chalfont St Giles, which he bought in 2021 for £3.25 million, in order to be closer to his son after his split from Cheryl. The property includes a swimming pool, gym, spa and tennis courts.
Liam Payne's death has shocked the international music industry. Argentine authorities confirmed the cause of death was polytrauma, a medical term used for multiple and severe injuries to different parts of the body. Investigations into the circumstances of the incident are still ongoing, while two people face charges of supplying cocaine to the singer before his death.
Liam Payne rose to worldwide fame as part of the boy band One Direction, one of the most successful bands of the last decade. After the group's breakup in 2016, he pursued a solo career, releasing a string of successful singles and remaining one of the most popular artists of his generation.
