According to statistics, in Greece there are approximately 230 thefts per 100,000 inhabitants. The first place is occupied by New Zealand with 1171 thefts per 100 thousand inhabitants, while the first five are completed by Uruguay with 558, Italy with 232 and the USA with 228 vehicle thefts. However, even thieves have their taste.
The question that criminal experts ask is only one, why there are so many car thefts in Greece, since today it is difficult for a stolen vehicle to be sold and put back into circulation either in the country or abroad!
The answer is clear: For spare parts.
Thieves now choose well-known cars that have been sold enough in Greece, but also rarer ones that are not easy to find spare parts. Even in some cases of this specific category of stolen cars, the robbers contact the owner asking for a "reward" for the return of the car.
According to data reported by the Greek media, the most preferred car by thieves in Greece in recent years remains the Smart, produced mainly from 1998 to 2014. Of course, they do not prefer the new one, which is electric because it has few mechanical parts. . It should also be said that a Smart can be stolen very easily, due to its light weight.
As their second choice, thieves prefer the Mini Cooper, especially the first generation (2006-2008) for the same reasons as the Smart. Next is the Toyota Yaris as it has a high demand for spare parts.
