The scientists have prepared three questions, which at first glance, are perceived to be easy to answer, but apparently it is not so at all.
It takes about 1 minute to answer all questions. But even though the questions seem simple, they appeared in a research paper published by MIT professor Shane Frederick.
Only 17 percent of those who answered the question in the article were able to answer all of them correctly. The remaining 87 percent of participants in the experiment failed the test.
1. The cost of 1 stick and a ball is 110 Euros. The stick is 100 Euro more expensive than the ball. What is the price of the ball in this case?
2. If 5 machines complete 5 parts in 5 minutes, how many minutes will it take 100 machines to complete 100 parts?
3. There is a water lily leaf in a lake. The size of the leaf doubles every day. If it takes 48 days for this leaf to cover the entire lake, how many days will it take to cover half of the lake?
POSSIBLE ANSWERS GIVEN:
1. 10 Euros
2. 100 minutes
3. 24 days
If your answer is yes, unfortunately it is wrong.
But what are the correct answers?
1. The bat is 100 Euro more expensive than the ball and if the ball was 10 Euro, its total price should be 120 Euro. However, in the question it was clearly stated that the total price of the two objects was 110 Euros. If we buy the ball for 5 Euro, the price of the stick will be 105 Euro. When you combine the two prices, it is 110 Euros.
2. If it takes 5 minutes for 5 machines to do 5 pieces of work, it takes 5 minutes for 1 machine to do 1 job. So each machine needs 5 minutes for 1 piece. Therefore, 100 machines will make 100 parts in 5 minutes.
3. The leaf doubles every day. In other words, many people who answered on the 24th are unfortunately wrong on this point. If the leaf covers the entire lake in 48 days, it will be half as small on the 47th day. So the answer to the question is 47.
