We call it donkey's thorn (Silybum marianum) and remember that this name was given as an insult, because it is a plant despised by farmers. BUT, the truth is quite different and you will be able to learn it later, as the newspaper "Super Health" is bringing you for the first time in Albanian, the legend of this plant
THORN "GOMARI", PLANT BLESSED BY SAINT MERIA
This is the legend that international herbal experts have published about the donkey's thorn plant, surprising us not only with the history, but also with the medicinal importance of this plant.
It is said that Saint Mary on the way to Egypt stopped to breastfeed the baby Jesus.
She sat next to a large thistle flower and a drop of milk fell from her breast and soaked a leaf.
From that moment that plant became blessed and was called "Mary's thorn".
The fact is that for centuries Silybum marianum was used to improve milk flow in nursing mothers.
And, since this plant increased breast milk excessively, like donkeys, then it was called in the popular language "donkey's thorn", but this name is not at all in the negative context as you might have thought.
On the contrary, donkey's thorn or Mary's thorn is a blessed plant, since its seeds, in addition to increasing milk in pregnant women, are above all curative for liver diseases, including hepatitis, for gallstone problems, for digestion, and many diseases of the others.
- Mary's thorn has also been used as an antidote for snake venom and as a cure for "melancholy" (Gerard, 1597).
LIVER HEALING PLANT
Andrea Mattioli in the 16th century advised the use of donkey's thorn for the liver, and it seems that he has been right ever since.
In fact, according to modern scientific evidence, the liver appears to be the main organ that benefits the most from burdock.
The seeds of the plant contain a bitter substance, essence, flavones and biogenic amines, as well as tyramine histamine, silybin.
These elements have the ability to improve liver function and are also used in cerosis. It has been proven that this plant is also effective against all parenchymatous liver damage, where the fruit is given as an aid alongside appropriate diet and chemotherapy.
- Mary's thorn also has properties to increase the amount of fluids secreted by the gall, to discharge gallstones and regenerate this organ, to reduce high temperature, it is used as a choleretic, cholagogue and sedative in jaundice, etc. Externally, it is used to treat yeast infections, vein spasms, etc.

When and how thistle seeds are collected

The collection period of this flower is late summer, while the active ingredients are a group of flavoligans called in their complexity silymarin.
These exert protective activity of the liver against many toxic agents (such as alcohol, poisonous mushrooms) and regenerative for hepatic cells.
As the proverb says, all that glitters is not gold and you should avoid collecting this flower, especially in areas near roads and heavy traffic.
These seeds are stored for up to 2 years, but in dry places.
