PHOTOS: Dua poses 'topless' for Vogue France

The world-famous Albanian singer, Dua Lipa, posed topless for Vogue France, while she also conducted an interview with Arthur Dreyfus.

Dua Lipa, as you've never seen her before, is the muse for the September 2023 issue of Vogue France, photographed by Mert Alas.

Excerpt from Vogue France's article on Dua Lipa:

Powerful, very sensual voice. Electric pulse. The queen of the picture. The world could no longer do without Dua Lipa. And neither is fashion. Hand in hand with Donatella for the Versace collection, in the vinyl jackets and mini skirts of Nicolas Di Felice, the talented person who took over the house of Courrèges, adopting the lively pop of GCDS from the Italian Giuliano Calza, unforgettable in a transparent Jacquemus dress at the wedding of the designer, the singer and now actress shines on all fronts.

But there is only one step, or one train, from London to Paris: it is commented that Dua, who no longer has a secret relationship with the director Romain Gavras, would spend a lot of time in France... At the dawn of this new chapter, in preparation for her third album, while distilling her tastes, advice and podcasts, it seemed the time had come to re-explore the adventure of one of the most magical pop icons of our time.

Splendid hair and clear complexion, golden hoop earrings and lover's T-shirt: on her sofa, Dua is ready. Always ready.

Arthur Dreyfus: It's 2023. Where were you 10 years ago?

Dua Lipa: Oh… I was 18 years old. I lived in London, the city I left between the ages of 11 and 15 to join Kosovo.

were you happy

Dua Lipa: A lot. These are the years when I did everything to be seen and heard. I met writers and producers while posting songs online. And at the age of 19 I signed my first contract.

Where does this need to "see and hear" come from, according to you?

Dua: My earliest memories are related to music. It has always been a big part of my life. Not all music lovers want to perform in front of thousands of people, it's true. I know many musicians who prefer to stay behind the scenes. As for me, I don't really know… I've always loved performing. Dancing, singing, inventing choreography on the playground… As a child, I dreamed while falling asleep: “It would be incredible to perform on a real stage…

Did you always have others or could you dance alone?

I wish: I could dance alone. But when my parents invited friends, I would jump right in and it must have been quite annoying, because I would show up shouting: "Look at me, everyone, the show is about to start!".

It's a bit of a cliché question, but are you still that little girl who danced in front of her parents in the middle of the living room?

Dua: Hmm… not necessarily. Besides, when I'm having dinner, I really enjoy not being the center of attention. Because being the center of attention has become my job.

So there is a second, very different Dua in the private circle?

Dua: At first I wanted to believe that you had to be the same person at home and on stage. I have now learned to reserve certain aspects of myself for my inner circle. It is Dua who is quiet at home and, in the media, this exaggerated version of myself who is also called Dua, and gives it all on stage.

Which of the Duat do you prefer?

I want: Their mix! Because this double side allows me to lead a normal life. When I have a professional meeting, I put myself in "I want a musical career" mode, but I might as well immediately join some friends in "I want an intimate" mode and put everything else aside. These two faces allow me to keep my feet on the ground.

Your name means "love" in Albanian. But listening to you, I can't help but also hear "duality"...

Dua: Of course… My name has many facets! There is a lot of duality in me... But it is in this duality that I have found peace. And that I allow myself to put my faith on hold when I'm at home. She rests.

But do you like to work?

I want: I like to work. I must always be busy, it makes me happy.

Sometimes we hear that the fear of the void is a fear of death. Do you accept it?

Dua: I don't know. I make sure to make the most of every moment. I don't think I'm afraid of death, it's part of life. And I saw my parents adjust to so many things, face so many complex situations… It made me integrate a principle of reality.

Your parents' eligibility was immigration experience. They had to change the place of work, the country... As a child, did you have the feeling that you were different from others?

Dua: Yes! My first name immediately indicated this difference. As “normal” as I hear it sound, as soon as I introduce myself I hear, “Oh, where is that coming from? What does it mean?" And that, when it was not necessary to repeat or pronounce my name...

It's a big name.

Dua: Thanks, but I could only appreciate it by imagining it could become my stage name. I have always been proud of my Albanian roots, but as I grew up I learned to appreciate my history.

It was a grandmother, who died before you were born, who suggested the name Dua. Do you still have your grandparents?

Dua: Yes, both from my mother's side.

Not shocked by the super hot dimension of your character?

Dua: They are modern grandparents. They have evolved with time and I think they are especially proud of me. It is a very precious thing.

So I imagine you will have children one day too?

Dua: Hmm, maybe. But this is not planned! The only baby I can think of is my new album.

For millennia, it was obvious that women should become mothers. Today, many of my friends are not sure if they want children. I have the impression that this is less strong than before. Maybe because the world has become too dangerous and the future looks too bleak.

Dua: Of course, today's world is scary. But beyond that, I believe that women have gained a place in society that was previously denied them. However, has the desire to have a child disappeared? I believe women want to choose their own pace and not feel guilty for thinking about them. As far as I'm concerned, when the time is perfect, I'll know. But in the meantime I have other priorities, I want to continue enjoying my youth.

Back to the music. When you were (still) younger, you worshiped Madonna, Missy Elliott, Kylie Minogue and, of course, Pink, your idol. Today, it is your life to attend, to work with some of these artists. Are you still impressed?

Dua: I will never find it trivial to relate to these incredible people. Every morning, I thank heaven for this crazy life.

My last interview for Vogue was Angela. She described you as a very impressive girl who embodies pure strength while remaining sensitive.

Dua: Oh, that's so cute! Me and Angèle, at the time of the clip for "Fever", we spent a lot of time together: I had the impression that I knew her. And I admire these two characters that she makes coexist. Once again: duality. Because Angèle is also the absolute pop star, wild, sexy, but she is also an ultra simple and funny girl, who likes to be cozy at home and tickle her dog Pépette!

When you don't listen to pop what do you listen to?

I like: Listening to Sting my dad loved and all the sounds I grew up with: The Police, Stereophonics, Primal Scream, Pulp, Sade… And, of course, David Bowie, Prince, Elton John… I also like French music , Spanish music, I'm actually very eclectic.

And your music?

Dua: I never listen to my music. When I'm working on an album, it goes on repeat, but the second it comes out, I don't listen to it anymore unless it's on the radio or in a club…

Novelist Dominique Fernandez says: "Every new book is written to right the wrongs of the old." Do you accept it?

Want: Heavy. I happen all the time to overdo something when I do it and, after a while, I'm in, "Okay, good, but it could be better." It is endless. Like a perpetual wheel, a perpetual competition with myself.

The butterfly is one of your emblems. Girl, did you want to catch them?

Want: Never. I was just mesmerized by their beauty, their freedom. Then I thought about the butterfly experience. Her short life, this metamorphosis... Even we humans go through many metamorphoses... Butterflies have always seemed magical and mystical to me. As soon as I saw one, I made a wish. I felt connected to them.
