Millionaires in Britain, including former footballer Gary Lineker and music producer Brian Eno, have written to new Prime Minister Andy Burnham demanding they be taxed more.
In an open letter, 120 wealthy Britons write to the new Downing Street boss:
"We can afford it. We're not talking about higher taxes on those who wake up and go to work to earn their income every day, but on the wealthiest, whose income comes from the wealth they own."
Organized by the Patriotic Millionaires, the letter states that this initiative would lead to a more equal society and called for a "decentralization of wealth and power from the richest."
People can now voluntarily donate money or shares to the Treasury using a donation structure. Millionaires support a 2% tax on wealth over £10m.
The British Chancellor of the Exchequer welcomed the proposal, but stressed that any changes would have to be made through the budget.
