Hollywood has double standards for men and women over 40. Charlize Theron is 48 years old and says that by the standards of the world of cinema, "men age like fine wine", while women "like plucked flowers".
"I despise this concept. And I think women want to age in the way that feels best to them," Theron told Allure magazine. "I think we should be a little more sensitive about how we decide to live our lives. The path I've taken for them seeing my face on a billboard now seems pretty funny."
Theron says she accepts aging as a natural process.
"My face is changing and I have no problem with this change."
The actress who won an Oscar for her role in "Monster", a 2003 film, says that people often ask if she has had any facial surgery.
"They think I've had a face lift." They ask: What has this done to the face? I'm just getting old. It doesn't mean that this could be an intervention gone wrong. This is how you grow old," she says.
He also sees aging in the difficulty of losing weight. Theron was widely commented on 20 years ago for the many pounds she gained in order to fit the role of the protagonist in "Monster". She lost the excess weight soon after the film came out, but according to her, such a thing is very difficult after 40.
"I had been trying to lose weight for a year. I called the doctor and told him: I think I'm going to die, I can't lose weight. And he said to me: You are over 40, calm down. Your metabolism is not what it used to be."
The Oscar winner will be seen even more as she is currently promoting Dior's new fragrance, L'Or de J'Adore, which is being marketed as "a reinvention" of their classic J'Adore fragrance.
Theron has been the face of the brand for over twenty years and is grateful for it.
"I'm so grateful for it and I'm really proud of it," Theron said.
